Isidoro David Herrera, Methamphetamine Conspiracy, Idaho 2013

Pocatello, Idaho – In a significant blow to Eastern Idaho’s underground methamphetamine trade, Isidoro David Herrera, 32, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, was sentenced in United States District Court today to 100 months in prison for his involvement in a large-scale methamphetamine conspiracy, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced.

The sentencing, which took place on an unspecified date in United States District Court, follows Herrera’s guilty plea to the charge on January 24, 2013. Herrera is the 13th defendant to be sentenced in the case, with the remaining defendant, Guadalupe Meraz, 42, of Madera, California, still at large.

As part of the conspiracy, Herrera and his co-conspirators, including the ringleader, Samuel Nevarez-Ayon, distributed over 50 grams of methamphetamine in the Idaho Falls area from June 2005 through January 2012. The group’s activities included distributing methamphetamine on at least three occasions, laundering proceeds from the sale of the methamphetamine, and making false loan applications to local banks.

During the course of the conspiracy, the defendants obtained in excess of $500,000 from the distribution of methamphetamine. Herrera’s sentence includes five years of supervised release following his imprisonment.

Other defendants in the case have received sentences ranging from one month in prison to 292 months in prison. The case was the result of a nine-month investigation by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), including the Idaho State Police, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho Falls Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Rexburg Police Department, Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

According to the plea agreements filed in the case, Samuel Nevarez-Ayon, the leader of the group, admitted to distributing methamphetamine on at least three occasions and directing the activities of various co-defendants, including Herrera.

Herrera’s involvement in the conspiracy has been documented in detail, with the defendant pleading guilty to the charge on January 24, 2013. His sentence marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to dismantle the Eastern Idaho methamphetamine trade.
