Defendant Sentenced to 21 Months in Prison for Methamphetamine Distribution
BOISE – In a shocking turn of events, Raul Garcia-Rosales, 39, of Mountain Home, Idaho, was sentenced to 21 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Garcia-Rosales received approximately one pound of methamphetamine from his co-defendant, Jamie Guerrero, 27, of Glenns Ferry, Idaho, in Elmore County, Idaho, on September 14, 2011.
Garcia-Rosales then distributed the methamphetamine to an undercover officer at a truck stop in Mountain Home. Guerrero, who also pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, admitted to supplying the methamphetamine to Garcia-Rosales.
The case was the result of a joint investigation by the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), led by the Idaho State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration, in conjunction with the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office.
The OCDETF program is a federal multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional task force that supplies supplemental federal funding to federal and state agencies involved in the identification, investigation, and prosecution of major drug trafficking organizations. Other task force members include the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the DEA, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and U.S. Marshals Service.
Garcia-Rosales’ sentence includes three years of supervised release following his prison term. Guerrero is scheduled to be sentenced on August 26, 2013, before U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge at the federal courthouse in Boise.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office, led by Wendy J. Olson, commended the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Olson said, ‘This case is a prime example of the importance of collaboration between federal and state agencies in the fight against drug trafficking.’
