RICHMOND, Va. — Isidoro Gonzalez-Ferretiz, a 35-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison today for the fourth time he has illegally reentered the United States — a crime funded repeatedly by American taxpayers through successive deportations.
Court records show Gonzalez-Ferretiz first slipped across the border in 2008. That same year, in August, he was caught and voluntarily removed to Mexico. But he didn’t stay long. He returned illegally, was apprehended in February 2014, and later that year convicted of theft from a motor vehicle in Pennsylvania. In June 2014, he was deported again — the second time at U.S. government expense.
Undeterred, Gonzalez-Ferretiz crossed back into the country a third time. By 2017, he was convicted of driving while intoxicated. After serving that sentence, he was deported yet again in March 2018 — the third removal on the public dime. That same year, in September, he was found in Henrico County, Virginia, having illegally reentered the U.S. for the fourth time.
Senior U.S. District Judge Robert E. Payne handed down the 21-month sentence, emphasizing the repeated disregard for federal immigration law. Each reentry after deportation is a felony punishable under U.S. code, and Gonzalez-Ferretiz now faces the consequences of his serial violations.
After completing his prison term, Gonzalez-Ferretiz will be deported for the fourth time — again at taxpayer expense. Federal prosecutors argued that his repeated return demonstrates a pattern of exploitation of U.S. borders and a burden on law enforcement and judicial resources.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Heather H. Mansfield. G. Zachary Terwilliger, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Lyle A. Boelens, Acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Washington, D.C., confirmed the sentencing. Court documents are available under Case No. 3:18-cr-117 via PACER or the Eastern District of Virginia’s federal court website.
