Robert Sheffield, Conspiracy to Interfere with Interstate Commerce by Robbery, District of Columbia 2025

WASHINGTON D.C. – The glint of gold wasn’t worth the federal time. Robert Sheffield, 34, of the District of Columbia, is headed to prison for nine years after admitting his role in a ruthless crew that terrorized South Asian jewelry stores across multiple states. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the sentencing today, marking a significant blow to the 15-member operation allegedly spearheaded by rapper Trevor Wright, known as “Taliban Glizzy.”

Sheffield, who went by the street name “Da Real Lifaa,” pleaded guilty February 20, 2025, to conspiracy to interfere with interstate commerce by robbery – a Hobbs Act violation – and possessing a firearm during a crime of violence. Judge Christopher R. Cooper sentenced Sheffield to 108 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. The crew’s spree, spanning from January 2022 to August 2023, raked in millions of dollars in cash and gold, leaving a trail of fear and financial ruin.

Court documents detail Sheffield’s direct involvement in two particularly brazen robberies. On November 10, 2023, he helped steal $1 million in cash and gold from Baral Jewelers in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The operation was textbook: getaway drivers, a front team to subdue employees and customers, and Sheffield among those storming the rear to smash display cases and stuff bags with stolen jewelry. Witnesses described a scene of pure terror, with victims cowering as the crew ransacked the store. Just a week later, a co-conspirator flaunted Sheffield’s ill-gotten gains on social media – a photo of him fanning a stack of cash, followed by a video of him purchasing an $11,500 Rolex with hundred-dollar bills at Prince George’s Mall.

The crew wasn’t shy about revisiting targets. On April 28, 2023, Sheffield and at least five accomplices returned to Yasini Jewelers in Falls Church, Virginia – a store they’d already hit in January 2022 for between $300,000 and $400,000 in gold. This time, however, the owner was prepared. Armed with his own firearm, he fired a single shot as the masked intruders, including Sheffield wielding a loaded Glock 23, smashed through the storefront. Sheffield returned fire before the crew fled empty-handed.

The investigation, led by federal authorities, revealed a calculated scheme targeting South Asian jewelry stores for their high-purity gold. The crew meticulously planned each robbery, utilizing multiple vehicles and coordinating roles. While Sheffield is now facing the consequences, the investigation remains ongoing, with authorities still pursuing other members of the 15-person crew, including alleged ringleader Trevor Wright. The streets of DC are a little less shiny, but the feds are still hunting down the rest of the crew.

Judge Cooper’s sentencing of Sheffield sends a clear message: violent crime won’t be tolerated, and those who prey on communities for profit will face the full force of the law. The nine-year sentence, combined with five years of supervised release, is a substantial penalty for a brazen and dangerous criminal. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as the remaining members of the crew are brought to justice.
