⏱ 2 min read

Alexander Justin White, a 30-year-old from Durham, North Carolina, has been sentenced to 8 years in federal prison for conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS). Between May and October 2024, White made numerous posts supporting ISIS and jihad, including videos used to recruit new members. He also engaged in fundraising efforts and made several financial transactions to support terrorist camps.

White openly discussed his desire to travel overseas to join ISIS on Facebook and encrypted messaging applications, indicating he wanted to be a ‘Mujahid’ and was willing to kill U.S. military members and citizens. He purchased a flight to North Africa and equipment to use overseas, but was arrested by law enforcement at the airport before he could board the flight.

The FBI Raleigh-Durham Joint Terrorism Task Force intervened and arrested White, preventing him from joining the terrorist group. U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle stated that the United States does not tolerate terrorism in any form and that the Department of Justice and FBI will relentlessly bring those who support terrorism to justice.

White’s sentence reflects the seriousness of his crimes and the commitment of law enforcement to eradicating terrorism. The case highlights the importance of monitoring online activity and preventing the spread of terrorist ideologies.
