NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – In a significant crackdown on immigration offenses, 30-year-old Israel Rocha-Barron, a native of Mexico, was sentenced yesterday for illegal reentry of a removed alien.
According to court documents, on November 29, 2018, Rocha-Barron was found in the United States after having been previously removed from the United States on November 14, 2016.
United States District Court Judge Martin L.C. Feldman handed down the sentence, which consisted of time served (2 months of imprisonment), followed by 1 year of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment fee. The defendant will be surrendered to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings.
U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser commended the work of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri is in charge of the prosecution.
Rocha-Barron’s case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of attempting to reenter the United States after being previously removed. Immigration offenses carry severe penalties, and individuals who attempt to circumvent the law will be held accountable.
The case is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies in protecting the nation’s borders and upholding the rule of law.
