New Orleans Pair Guilty in $200,000 Bank Heist

In a shocking case of financial deceit, Brandon Livas, 34, and Royale Lassai, 29, both from New Orleans, Louisiana, have pleaded guilty to bank larceny in a theft of over $200,000. The duo’s scheme involved stealing patient information from Metairie Medical Clinic, which was then used to fraudulently obtain debit cards.

According to court documents, Lassai, who worked at the medical clinic, obtained personal information of patients, including dates of birth, social security numbers, and addresses, without authority. She sold this information to her cousin, Ashley Green, who used it to obtain debit cards from Capital One and Whitney. The cards were mailed to an address controlled by Green, who then used them to withdraw at least $200,000 from the victims’ accounts.

Lassai was paid at least $1,000 for pilfering the patient’s information. The duo’s scheme has been deemed a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2113(b).

Livas and Lassai face up to 10 years’ incarceration, a $250,000 fine, restitution, and three years of supervised release. Sentencing is set for October 21, 2019.

U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser praised the work of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and the United States Postal Inspection Service in investigating the matter. The case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Carter K.D. Guice Jr.

The case highlights the dangers of identity theft and the importance of protecting personal information. It also serves as a reminder of the severe consequences that individuals can face when engaging in such activities.

Green, the third defendant, is scheduled for a change of plea hearing in October 2019.
