BOSTON – A shocking crime has shaken the streets of Boston. Ivan DeJesus Lopez-Lopez, a 29-year-old Honduran national, has been charged with a federal immigration crime.
According to investigators, Lopez-Lopez was deported in November 2009 for unlawfully entering the United States. However, in a brazen move, he returned to the country, only to be discovered by federal agents in Boston in May 2017.
The charge of illegal reentry after deportation provides for a sentence of no greater than two years in prison, one year of supervised release and a fine of $250,000. Lopez-Lopez will be subject to deportation upon completion of his sentence.
Acting United States Attorney William D. Weinreb and Matthew J. Etre, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Boston, made the announcement today. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth G. Shine of Weinreb’s Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
The details contained in the indictment are allegations. Lopez-Lopez is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
With the rise of immigration-related crimes, the people of Massachusetts are demanding justice. Will Lopez-Lopez face the full extent of the law, or will he walk free? Only time will tell.
The case is a stark reminder of the importance of immigration laws and the consequences of breaking them. As the investigation continues, one thing is certain: Ivan DeJesus Lopez-Lopez will face the music for his alleged crimes.
