Defendant Sentenced to 11 Years for Methamphetamine Possession
Fresno, CA – Ivan Sigmond, 47, of Clovis, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute, announced U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert.
According to court documents, law enforcement officers identified Sigmond as a source of methamphetamine supply in the Clovis area. On August 28, 2020, a search warrant was executed at Sigmond’s residence, where nearly 30 pounds of pure methamphetamine, two handguns, and an assault firearm were found.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen Escobar prosecuted the case, which was the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Clovis Police Department. The case was investigated under the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF), a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach to disrupting and dismantling high-level criminal organizations.
The 11-year sentence was handed down after Sigmond was found guilty of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Sigmond’s crime posed a significant threat to the community, and the sentence aims to hold him accountable for his actions.
The OCDETF program is a key component in the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking. By working together, law enforcement agencies and prosecutors can identify and dismantle high-level criminal organizations, making communities safer for all.
