Iverina Crow Eagle, a 43-year-old woman from St. Francis, South Dakota, has been charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. According to court documents, Crow Eagle was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 14, 2020.
The indictment alleges that Crow Eagle conspired with others to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine on the Rosebud Indian Reservation. The alleged conspiracy began no later than January 2018.
Crow Eagle appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on August 20, 2021, and pled not guilty to the indictment. She was subsequently remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 40 years in federal prison and/or a $5,000,000 fine, four years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The investigation into Crow Eagle’s alleged activities is being conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan Dilges is prosecuting the case.
A trial date has not been set for Crow Eagle, but she remains in custody pending the outcome of her case. The indictment serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle to combat methamphetamine distribution in South Dakota and the surrounding areas.
