Jack David ‘Jackie’ Stovall, II, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Alabama 2023

A 73-year-old convicted felon has been sentenced to prison for illegally possessing a firearm in Anniston, Alabama. U.S. District Court Judge Corey L. Maze handed down the sentence to Jack David ‘Jackie’ Stovall, II, who pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm in July.

According to the plea agreement, on April 9, 2021, Stovall unlawfully possessed a Mossberg Model 715P .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle, a North American Arms .22 caliber magnum revolver, and approximately 500 rounds of ammunition. He is prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior felony convictions, including attempted murder for hire and unlawful possession of a firearm in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama in December 1997.

Stovall was sentenced to 36 months in prison followed by 36 months supervised release for the crime. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $40,000.00.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI, with assistance from the Anniston Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kristen Osborne and Kristy Peoples prosecuted the case.

U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona praised the work of the Anniston Police Department and the FBI on the case, stating that the Anniston area is a focus of their ongoing efforts to reduce violent crime and gun crimes in the district.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Johnnie Sharp, Jr., also commended the law enforcement cooperative effort, saying that the sentence was the culmination of a great effort to bring Stovall to justice.

Stovall’s sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of violating federal firearms laws, and the importance of ensuring public safety in our communities.
