Fentanyl and Methamphetamine Trafficking
A Coraopolis man has been charged with fentanyl trafficking and possession in a federal indictment in Western Pennsylvania, while also facing charges in the District of Columbia for running a counterfeiting operation on the Darknet.
According to the indictment, 25-year-old Jacob Blair of Coraopolis is accused of possessing over 100 grams of a mixture containing a detectable amount of a fentanyl analogue on February 24, 2022, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. He is also accused of possessing with intent to distribute over 40 grams of a mixture containing a detectable amount of fentanyl and 50 grams of methamphetamine.
In a parallel indictment in the District of Columbia, Blair is accused of running a counterfeit drug conspiracy that sold fentanyl and methamphetamine disguised as Oxycontin, Xanax, and Adderall on a Darknet Marketplace.
The indictment alleges that Blair attempted to possess over 400 grams of a mixture containing a detectable amount of fentanyl, and conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, methamphetamine, and metonitazen.
Blair was arrested by FBI agents on February 24, 2023, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, and is being held pending a detention hearing on March 1, 2023. If convicted, Blair faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and a fine of $10,000,000.
The cases are being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys DeMarr Moulton and Kevin Rosenberg. The investigation is being led by the Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. offices of the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the Department of Homeland Security/Homeland Security Investigations, along with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the Moon Township Police Department.
It is essential to note that an indictment is merely an accusation, and Jacob Blair is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Federal authorities have been cracking down on fentanyl trafficking and possession in recent years, with many defendants facing lengthy prison sentences.
