North Liberty man Jacob John Preuschl, 28, is headed to federal prison for 300 months after being convicted of producing child pornography and transferring obscene material to a minor. The sentence, handed down January 25, 2023, marks a grim end to a digital predator’s months-long exploitation of a teenage girl via Snapchat.
Preuschl didn’t act in isolation—his crimes unraveled when a horrified mother discovered explicit messages between her underage daughter and the adult male on the teen’s phone. The parent immediately reported the exchange to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), triggering a cyber-investigation that crossed state lines and exposed Preuschl’s predatory pattern.
Investigators traced communications back to Preuschl, who had groomed the victim over four months, pressuring her to send nude images and videos. In return, he sent photos of his genitals. The exchange wasn’t just criminal—it was systematic. Forensic analysis of his seized cell phone revealed he had targeted multiple minor females on Snapchat and downloaded child pornography through the encrypted Telegram app.
The case was jointly investigated by the Joint Forensic Analysis Cyber Team and the Nashville, Tennessee Police Department before being handed to Iowa authorities. NCMEC’s tip proved pivotal, turning a parent’s worst nightmare into a federal prosecution that spared Preuschl no leniency.
U.S. Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentencing, emphasizing the role of “Project Safe Childhood,” the DOJ’s nationwide initiative targeting child sexual exploitation. Preuschl was also ordered to pay $10,000 under the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act and $3,000 under the Amy, Vicky, and Andy Child Pornography Victim Assistance Act—penalties meant to confront the lifelong harm he inflicted.
Following his 25-year prison term, Preuschl will serve seven years under federal supervised release—subject to strict monitoring as a registered sex offender.
