Jacob R. Loyd, Carjacking, New York 2020

A violent carjacking that left a Rochester man with a severe head injury has landed him a 10-year prison sentence. Jacob R. Loyd, 21, was sentenced to 123 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa on June 16, 2019 for his role in the carjacking.

Loyd, of Rochester, was convicted of carjacking and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. The crime occurred on June 16, 2019, when Loyd and two others approached a vehicle in the area of 115 Gothic Street in Rochester. Loyd pointed a firearm at the head of the victim and ordered them to get out of the car. As the victim exited, Loyd struck him in the head with the firearm.

Police officers recovered the vehicle at approximately 8:25 p.m. near 146 Alphonse Street in Rochester. The radio and hubcaps had been removed from the vehicle. Loyd was taken into custody a short time later with 15 bags of cocaine and a revolver in his possession.

The case was brought by the U.S. Attorney’s Office as part of its Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative. PSN is the centerpiece of the government’s violent crime reduction efforts. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.

The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Rochester Police Department, under the direction of Interim Chief David M. Smith, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge John B. DeVito, New York Field Division.

Loyd faces a lengthy prison sentence due to his violent crime. He was sentenced to 123 months in prison for his role in the carjacking. This sentence will ensure that he is held accountable for his actions and will not be able to harm others in the future.
