Jury Finds Deon Blair Guilty of Distributing Fentanyl Resulting in Death

A 28-year-old Pittsburgh man has been found guilty of distributing fentanyl and butyryl fentanyl resulting in the death of a local resident.

Deon Blair, formerly of Dinwiddie Street, was tried before Senior United States District Judge David S. Cercone in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Blair was convicted of all six counts for which he was charged, including conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and butyryl fentanyl.

The six counts charged the following crimes that occurred in January and February 2017: distribution of fentanyl and butyryl fentanyl resulting in death, distribution of heroin, distribution of fentanyl and butyryl fentanyl, conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, butyryl fentanyl, and heroin, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Blair’s conviction carries a minimum sentence of life in prison, combined with his prior drug trafficking convictions, and a fine of up to $8,500,000. Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller prosecuted this case on behalf of the United States.

The investigation that led to the convictions was conducted by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, and the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Sentencing for Deon Blair is scheduled for December 2, 2021, at 11:00 a.m.

According to Acting United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman, ‘The convictions in this case demonstrate our commitment to holding accountable those who engage in drug trafficking and violent crime.’

Blair’s conviction is a significant blow to the opioid epidemic that has ravaged our communities, and we will continue to pursue those responsible for these crimes.
