Armed Methamphetamine Trafficking Lands Richmond Man 15 Years Behind Bars
A Richmond, Ky., man, Jacob Tyler Hensley, 28, has been sentenced to 180 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
According to Hensley’s plea agreement, law enforcement conducted a search warrant on his residence on September 17, 2020. During the search, they recovered approximately 705 grams of methamphetamine, which Hensley admitted he intended to distribute to others. In addition to the methamphetamine, the search also uncovered a safe containing $8,008 in cash and a total of 16 firearms.
Hensley admitted to possessing a firearm for protection of his drugs and drug proceeds. His guilty plea was entered in October 2022.
Under federal law, Hensley must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence. After his release, he will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for five years.
The investigation into Hensley’s activities was a joint effort between the DEA, Madison County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force, and Madison County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Kiebler represented the United States in this case.
Carlton S. Shier, IV, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; J. Todd Scott, Special Agent in Charge, DEA, Louisville Field Division; and Sheriff Mike Coyle, Madison County Sheriff’s Department, jointly announced the sentence. U.S. District Judge Karen Caldwell presided over the case.
Hensley’s crimes have earned him a lengthy prison sentence, a significant decrease in his freedom, and a lifetime of supervision after his release. His actions demonstrate the severe consequences of engaging in armed methamphetamine trafficking.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of community efforts to combat drug trafficking and the role of law enforcement agencies in keeping our communities safe.
