Local Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Meth Conspiracy

A 24-year-old Sioux Falls man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine, a highly addictive and destructive illegal substance.

Jaden Rae Lalley-Mestas, 24, was sentenced on November 4, 2024, by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier in the United States District Court for the District of South Dakota.

According to court records, Lalley-Mestas was convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance, a felony offense punishable by up to 20 years in prison. In addition to his 10-year prison sentence, he was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release and pay a special assessment of $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The charges against Lalley-Mestas stem from a package seizure that occurred in April 2023, when law enforcement discovered that approximately six pounds of methamphetamine was shipped in a package destined for his home. Further investigation revealed that Lalley-Mestas was working with others to receive the package and provide it to another co-conspirator.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, Drug Enforcement Administration, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Sioux Falls Area Drug Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Hodges prosecuted the case.

Lalley-Mestas was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. This case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of methamphetamine and the importance of community efforts to combat drug trafficking in our region.

By working together, we can reduce the flow of methamphetamine into our communities and keep our streets safer for everyone.
