Jaime Renteria-Lopez, Drug Trafficking, Indiana 2020

A 28-year-old man from Phoenix, Arizona, has been sentenced to 97 months in prison for his role in a Fort Wayne, Indiana, drug trafficking operation.

Judge Holly A. Brady handed down the sentence to Jaime Renteria-Lopez, who pleaded guilty to distributing a controlled substance and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.

According to court documents, Renteria-Lopez was carrying a firearm on October 28, 2019, which he used during his drug dealing activities. He later distributed approximately two ounces of heroin to law enforcement on January 7, 2020.

The case was the result of a joint investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Fort Wayne Police Department, in coordination with the FBI Safe Streets Gang Task Force. The task force includes the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Indiana State Police, the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, and the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Assistant United States Attorneys Anthony W. Geller and Brent A. Ecenbarger prosecuted the case.

The case was being prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, which is the centerpiece of the government’s violent crime reduction efforts. The PSN program has been proven to be effective at reducing violent crime.

Renteria-Lopez will serve 97 months in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release.
