SAN DIEGO – Jaimee Ashley Koryn faced federal justice today as she was sentenced to 130 months in prison for selling fentanyl pills that led to the tragic overdose death of 23-year-old Sherie Gil on September 30, 2021.
In October 2022, Koryn pleaded guilty, admitting her role in the distribution of the deadly substance. The investigation began when law enforcement and paramedics responded to a 911 call at an office building in San Diego, where they found Gil deceased with drug paraphernalia and counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl.
Medical Examiner’s findings confirmed that Gil died from toxic effects of fentanyl, cocaine, and alprazolam. A cell phone search revealed Gil had exchanged messages with Koryn seeking the “blues,” leading to Koryn’s arrest during a subsequent warrant execution at her residence.
U.S. Attorney Randy Grossman emphasized the ongoing devastation caused by fentanyl counterfeit pills and committed his office to pursuing those responsible for such tragedies. Special Agent in Charge Shelly Howe of DEA echoed these sentiments, vowing to continue pursuing those who deal this deadly poison.
