An Oklahoma City doctor has been convicted of stealing controlled substances from a local hospital.
John Nedza, 35, of Edmond, was found guilty on all 18 counts of obtaining a controlled substance by deceit or subterfuge, announced U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.
The charges stem from a federal grand jury indictment on September 19, 2023, which alleged that Nedza exploited his role as a contract anesthesiologist at an Oklahoma City-based hospital to divert controlled substances, including fentanyl, ketamine, dilaudid, and midazolam, over a long period of time.
According to testimony presented at trial, Nedza would pull out large amounts of controlled substances by claiming the drugs were for patient surgeries, but would then claim to dispose of the drugs and keep them for his own personal purposes.
Nedza faces up to four years in federal prison per count, for a total possible sentence of 72 years in federal prison.
This case is the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Thomas B. Snyder and Elizabeth M. Bagwell prosecuting the case.
