James Cargill, Methamphetamine Trafficking, California 2026

James Cargill, 44, of Vacaville, California, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.

Cargill’s crimes were uncovered after a series of arrests in January and May 2025, during which law enforcement officers found him in possession of large quantities of methamphetamine.

According to court documents, on January 1, 2025, officers discovered approximately 570 grams of a substance or mixture containing methamphetamine on Cargill’s person.

Just a few months later, in May 2025, officers found Cargill in possession of approximately 230 grams of a substance or mixture containing methamphetamine and a loaded Glock 20 semi-automatic pistol.

The investigation into Cargill’s activities was a collaborative effort between the Vacaville Police Department, the Fairfield Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Cargill is set to be sentenced on June 2, 2026, by Senior U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez. Under federal law, Cargill faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison, a maximum statutory penalty of life in prison, and a $10 million fine.

U.S. Attorney Eric Grant announced Cargill’s guilty plea, highlighting the significance of the case within the context of the nationwide Operation Take Back America initiative.

Operation Take Back America is a comprehensive effort to address the root causes of violent crime and protect American communities from the scourge of transnational cartels and organized crime groups.
