MISSOULA, Montana – Former Miles City High School Athletic Trainer Admits Coercing Minors

MISSOULA, Montana – James E. ‘Doc’ Jensen, Jr., a 79-year-old former high school athletic trainer from Miles City, Montana, pleaded guilty to coercion and enticement charges in a federal court.

According to U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme, Jensen coerced or enticed multiple minor males into sexual activity, using a program he developed based on information obtained from the internet.

Jensen, who worked as an athletic trainer at Custer County District High School from the 1970s to about 1998, faced a maximum of 15 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.

Jensen admitted to using the program, which he called ‘The Program,’ to coerce minor male student-athletes into sexual activity, saying it would increase their physical performance. He also used the telephone to contact victims about ‘The Program.’

Jensen’s victims were minors, and he knew they were minors. Victim interviews confirmed that Jensen engaged in this conduct until at least 1999, even after his association with Custer County District High School ended.

Jensen also admitted in a 2018 interview that he had applied ‘The Program’ to hundreds of minor children. A relative of Jensen’s even told law enforcement about seeing apparent computer print-outs of ‘The Program’ among Jensen’s possessions.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Zeno Baucus and Bryan Dake prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the FBI and Montana Division of Criminal Investigation.

Jensen is currently detained and is set to be sentenced on July 30 in Billings, Montana.
