Los Angeles, CA – Former UCLA gynecologist James Heaps has pleaded guilty to multiple counts of sexual abuse after his initial conviction was overturned.
According to a recent press release, Heaps was convicted of sexual abuse of a patient in 2022, but the conviction was later overturned by an appeals court.
As a result, Heaps has now pleaded guilty to multiple counts of sexual abuse, including sexual battery by fraud and sexual penetration by a foreign object.
The guilty plea comes after an investigation by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which alleged that Heaps had engaged in unlawful sexual contact with multiple patients during his time as a gynecologist at UCLA.
Heaps is set to be sentenced on April 17, 2024 and faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for each count.
