James M. Tanksley, Child Pornography, Indiana 2023

An Indiana man has been sentenced to 80 months in prison for his role in circulating child pornography online.

James M. Tanksley, 52, a resident of Indianapolis, was found guilty of two counts of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

The crimes were committed between June 2006 and May 2007, during which Tanksley joined two Internet-based bulletin board groups dedicated to trading child pornography.

The groups, which had strict rules for behavior, required members to post only pornographic images or videos depicting minors under the age of 18.

Tanksley admitted to being an active participant in the groups, commenting on the quality of the child pornography and expressing his gratification upon seeing the images or videos.

He was identified through ‘Operation Joint Hammer,’ a global enforcement operation targeting transnational rings of child pornographers.

The operation, which was initiated through evidence developed by European law enforcement and shared with U.S. counterparts, has led to the arrest of more than 60 people in the United States involved in the trade of child pornography.

Tanksley was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Sarah Evans Barker to lifetime supervised release following completion of his prison term.
