A Blawnox resident has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for violating federal laws regarding the sexual exploitation of a minor.
James Muir, 60, pleaded guilty to two counts and was sentenced by Chief United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon on April 25, 2024.
According to information presented to the court, Muir induced a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing videos and still images of such conduct,
on or around October 19, 2022. He then distributed the child sexual abuse material to another individual via text message.
Assistant United States Attorney Heidi M. Grogan prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
First Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation-Pittsburgh’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, including the Allegheny County Police Department and Blawnox Borough Police Department, for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Muir.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
