James Oliver Young, Production of Child Pornography, New York 2020

James Oliver Young, a 51-year-old Rochester man, has been arrested and charged with production of child pornography and enticement of a minor, according to a recent announcement by U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr.

The charges carry a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years in prison and a maximum of life. Young was arrested after an investigation by the New York State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation discovered that he had been communicating with a 10-year-old girl through private messages on Facebook.

According to the complaint, Young, who used the alias ‘Ollie Young,’ was attempting to entice the girl to produce and send child exploitation images as well as engage in sexual activity. Investigators subsequently determined that Young had allegedly had sexual relations with the girl on multiple occasions.

Young made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark W. Pedersen and is being detained pending trial. The investigation was led by the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Eric Laughton, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Gary Loeffert.

The charges against Young are the result of an investigation that began in April 2020, when the New York State Police received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that an individual using the alias ‘Ollie Young’ was communicating with the 10-year-old girl.

On April 18, 2020, the New York State Police executed a search warrant and seized multiple devices, including two cell phones belonging to Wilson, a 30-year-old Rochester woman who has also been charged with production of child pornography.

Wilson faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years in prison and a maximum of 30 years. The investigation also uncovered videos depicting child pornography involving a five-year-old boy.

The fact that Young has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced the charges against Young, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa M. Marangola is handling the case.
