Anthony Burris, Sex Trafficking, New York 2023

Buffalo, N.Y. – A grim tale of exploitation and coercion has unfolded in federal court as Anthony Burris, 34, from Jamestown, NY, pleaded guilty before Senior U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny to two counts of enticing travel to engage in sexual activity. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Maeve E. Huggins revealed that Burris coerced Victim 1, a woman battling drug addiction, into performing commercial sex acts between January and March 11, 2021. Threatening violence and manipulating her dependence on controlled substances, Burris provided Victim 1 with housing, food, and transportation – all in exchange for sexual services and their proceeds. He used online advertisements featuring sexually suggestive images of the victim to lure clients.

Between June 2020, and March 11, 2021, Burris targeted a second victim, Victim 2, who was also physically addicted to controlled substances and homeless. Using the same tactics, Burris coerced Victim 2 into commercial sex acts and advertised her online.

The investigation leading to Burris’s conviction was a collaborative effort by local law enforcement agencies, including the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, Amherst Police Department, and Millcreek, PA, Police Department. Sentencing is set for October 8, 2025.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the heinous acts committed under the guise of human trafficking, and the relentless pursuit of justice by federal authorities.
