Jamestown Man Sentenced on Cocaine Charge
A Jamestown man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for his role in a cocaine trafficking ring. Ismael Burgos, 53, was convicted of attempted possession with intent to distribute cocaine after investigators discovered a package containing the illicit substance.
According to authorities, the package was sent from Puerto Rico via U.S. Mail and was deemed suspicious by investigators. A child’s booster safety seat was found to contain a quantity of cocaine, which was seized during the investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Caleb J. Petzoldt stated that the sentencing was the culmination of an investigation by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The investigation was led by Shelly Binkowski, Inspector in Charge of the Boston Division, and James J. Hunt, Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Office.
Burgos was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford, who handed down the 30-month sentence. The sentencing is a significant blow to the cocaine trafficking ring, which had been operating in the area.
U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. praised the work of the investigators and prosecutors involved in the case, saying that they had brought a significant trafficker to justice. The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat cocaine trafficking in the region.
The investigation and sentencing are a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies to keeping the community safe from the scourge of cocaine trafficking. The sentence handed down by Judge Wolford will serve as a deterrent to others involved in similar activities.
