Puerto Rican Man Pleads Guilty to Cocaine Trafficking

A 34-year-old Puerto Rican man has pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine with intent to distribute, a crime that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine.

Juan Carlos Seguinot-Martinez, a resident of Puerto Rico, admitted in District Court on St. Croix that in December 2014, he purchased at least 500 grams of cocaine while in the US Virgin Islands.

According to his plea, Seguinot-Martinez then mailed the cocaine to Buffalo, New York, where it was intercepted by United States Customs and Border Protection agents.

The case was investigated by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alphonso Andrews and Rami S. Badawy.

Sentinced is scheduled to take place on August 19, 2015. The maximum penalty for this offense is 20 years in prison, a fine of $1,000,000, and a period of supervised release of at least 5 years.

The US Virgin Islands community is left wondering how this individual was able to orchestrate such a large-scale cocaine trafficking operation.

The Grimy Times will continue to provide updates on this case and any other information that becomes available.
