Pittsburgh Man Indicted on Heroin Trafficking Charges

A resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has been indicted by a federal grand jury on a charge of violating federal narcotics laws, announced United States Attorney Scott W. Brady.

The one-count Indictment named Jeremie Mitchell, age 25, as the sole defendant. According to the indictment, on or about September 3, 2019, Mitchell possessed with the intent to distribute 100 grams or more of a mixture and substance heroin, a Schedule I controlled substance, and a quantity of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance.

Prosecutors say Mitchel’s actions put the community at risk. ‘Heroin and cocaine trafficking have devastating effects on our communities,’ said United States Attorney Scott W. Brady. ‘Our office will continue to work tirelessly to hold those who engage in these activities accountable.’

The law provides for a minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum total sentence of life in prison, a fine not to exceed $8,000,000 or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The Drug Enforcement Agency and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police conducted the investigation leading to the Indictment in this case.

It’s worth noting that an indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The case will now proceed to trial where Mitchell will have the opportunity to defend himself against the charges.

The community is urged to remain vigilant in the face of this serious threat. We will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
