WILLIAMSPORT, PA – In a shocking turn of events, Michael Cox, a 35-year-old inmate at the United States Federal Penitentiary, Lewisburg, has been charged with Possession of Marijuana in Pennsylvania.
According to sources, Cox was found in possession of marijuana on November 15, 2021 during a search. The incident sparked a federal investigation by USP Lewisburg and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The charges against Cox stem from an indictment allegedly filed by a federal grand jury on April 28, 2022. The indictment alleges that Cox knowingly possessed marijuana in prison.
Assistant United States Attorney Alisan V. Martin is handling the case. The charges against Cox carry a maximum penalty of five years of incarceration and a fine. A sentence following a finding of guilt will be imposed by the court after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Criminal indictments are only allegations. Cox is presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania is leading the investigation into the matter.
