Henderson Man Sentenced to 6 Years for Firearms and Drug Trafficking Crimes
A Henderson man has been sentenced to 6 years in prison for possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Jamey Owens, 51, was sentenced to 72 months in prison after pleading guilty to the charges on October 21, 2021.
According to court records and statements made during hearings, Owens was involved in a controlled buy of cocaine from a confidential informant at his residence on State Street in Henderson on January 13, 2019. Based on the controlled buy, officers obtained a search warrant for the residence, which they executed on January 15, 2019.
During the search, officers found multiple firearms, including two handguns, a third pistol, and a shotgun. They also found drugs stashed throughout the house, including cocaine, heroin, suspected ecstasy tablets, and marijuana. Additionally, they found evidence of packaging materials, including ink stamps labeled with ‘BLACK CEASAR’ and green glassine bags, and over $3000 in cash.
The Henderson Police Department and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NC SBI) conducted the investigation, which led to Owens’ arrest and subsequent sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jake D. Pugh prosecuted the case.
Owens’ sentencing was announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina. The case was prosecuted in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
