Cedar Rapids Man Charged with Felon in Possession of Firearms
GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE
Jamie Swanson, 32, of Colona, Illinois, has been charged with being a felon in possession of firearms, according to a federal indictment unsealed in United States District Court in Cedar Rapids.
The indictment alleges that in March 2022, Swanson possessed three firearms after having been convicted of a felony.
Swanson, who appeared in federal court in Cedar Rapids today for a detention hearing, was held without bond. His next court appearance for trial is set for March 20, 2023.
As with any criminal case, a charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime. PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel and is being investigated by the Anamosa Police Department, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
