Jamie Vass, Meth Distribution, Beckley WV, 2023

BECKLEY, WV – Jamie Vass, 45, of Beckley, will spend the next decade behind bars after being sentenced Friday for running a significant methamphetamine distribution operation out of her home. U.S. District Judge Frank W. Volk handed down the 10-year sentence, followed by five years of supervised release, after Vass pleaded guilty to distributing 5 grams or more of methamphetamine.

The bust began to unravel on February 7, 2022, when Vass sold approximately one ounce of methamphetamine to a confidential informant right at her Beckley residence. The deal wasn’t a one-off; less than two months later, on March 27, 2022, she allegedly moved another 47 grams of the drug to the same informant, further cementing her role as a key player in the local meth supply.

Law enforcement didn’t wait long to bring the operation to a halt. On April 5, 2022, a search warrant was executed at Vass’s home, turning up not only more methamphetamine and fentanyl, but also a pair of firearms: a Ruger LC 9mm pistol and a Lorcin L22 .22-caliber pistol. Authorities also seized $827 in cash. The presence of both drugs and weapons is typical in these cases, often indicating a willingness to use force to protect the illegal enterprise.

During questioning, Vass reportedly confessed to a substantial operation, admitting she’d been pushing roughly 4 ounces of methamphetamine every four days, and about 7 grams of fentanyl per week, from December 2021 until her arrest. That’s a significant volume of narcotics flooding the streets of Raleigh County, and the sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime.

U.S. Attorney Will Thompson, speaking for the Southern District of West Virginia, praised the collaborative effort that brought Vass down. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit were instrumental in the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Andrew D. Isabell and Alex Hamner prosecuted the case, building a solid case against the defendant.

Court documents related to this case can be found on the PACER system under Case No. 5:22-cr-115. This case serves as a stark reminder that federal agencies are actively targeting drug traffickers in West Virginia, and those caught peddling poison will face serious consequences.
