ROCKY RIVER MAN CHARGED WITH METHAMPHETAMINE TRAFFICKING
A Rocky River man has been indicted on drug and firearms charges following a lengthy investigation by the FBI, said U.S. Attorney Carole S. Rendon and FBI Special Agent in Charge Stephen D. Anthony.
According to the indictment, Jamshed Ahmad, 43, was arrested this morning and charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Authorities claim that Ahmad had more than 50 grams of methamphetamine on July 12, 2016, and also possessed a Ruger LCP 380-caliber pistol and ammunition at the time.
The indictment alleges that Ahmad’s possession of the firearm is a violation of his 2007 conviction for drug trafficking, which made it illegal for him to possess a firearm.
U.S. Attorney Carole S. Rendon stated that the case will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Vasile Katsaros following an investigation by the FBI.
It is essential to note that an indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
According to U.S. Attorney Carole S. Rendon, the court will determine the defendant’s sentence after a review of factors unique to this case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violation.
In all cases, the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and, in most cases, it will be less than the maximum.
