Threats Against the President: A Second Time for Jared Brown
In a shocking turn of events, Jared Brown, 20, of Niagara County, NY, has been sentenced to serve 24 months in prison for violating the terms and conditions of his supervised release. The violation and sentence arose after Brown, in a 911 call to the Lockport City Police Department on December 26, 2016, threatened to kill then President-elect Donald Trump.
This is not Brown’s first offense. According to Assistant U. S. Attorney Scott S. Allen, who handled the case, at the time of the 911 call, Brown was already serving a three-year term of supervised release, which followed a 15-month prison sentence that the defendant served for previously threatening to kill former-President Barack Obama.
The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation by the United States Secret Service, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Lewis Robinson and the Lockport Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael Niethe.
Brown’s actions have sparked outrage and concern for public safety. ‘Threats against public officials are taken very seriously,’ said Acting U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. ‘We will not tolerate any form of violence or intimidation towards our elected leaders.’
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting the office of the President and the consequences of violating the law. Brown’s sentence is a reflection of the severity of his crimes and the need for accountability.
As the community moves forward, it is essential to prioritize public safety and hold individuals accountable for their actions. The sentencing of Jared Brown is a step in the right direction towards ensuring the well-being and security of our community.
