Man Sentenced for Illegally Re-Entering the United States
ALBANY, NEW YORK – Sid Ahmed Ould Denane Ould Sid Ahmed, age 43, was sentenced today to time served (70 days in jail) for illegally re-entering the United States.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian and Chief Patrol Agent John C. Pfeifer, United States Border Patrol, Swanton Sector. ‘This case serves as a reminder that attempting to re-enter the US without permission is a serious offense,’ said U.S. Attorney Hartunian.
Sid Ahmed Ould Denane Ould Sid Ahmed had left the United States in July 2016, while an order of removal was pending against him, making him ineligible to re-enter the country without the permission of the Department of Homeland Security. On December 27, 2016, Ahmed was arrested by United States Border Patrol Agents after he entered the United States without inspection in the area of Roxham Road in Champlain, New York.
‘The U.S. Border Patrol’s Champlain Station and the Assistant U.S. Attorney’s Office worked tirelessly to bring this case to justice,’ said Chief Patrol Agent Pfeifer. ‘We will continue to work to keep our communities safe and enforce the laws of our nation.’
Following his sentencing today, Ahmed was remanded to the custody of the Department of Homeland Security, which will place Ahmed into removal proceedings. ‘This sentence brings closure to a case that should serve as a warning to individuals who attempt to re-enter the United States without proper authorization,’ said U.S. Attorney Hartunian.
This case was investigated by the United States Border Patrol, Champlain Station, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Edward P. Grogan. The investigation was led by Border Patrol Agents who worked to identify and apprehend individuals who attempt to re-enter the United States without permission.
