Child Predator Exposed in Dalton
A disturbing case of child exploitation has shaken the quiet town of Dalton, Massachusetts. Jared Sprague, a 25-year-old resident, pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography in U.S. District Court in Springfield.
According to court records, Sprague’s home was searched in 2012, and a computer containing approximately 100 files of child pornography was seized. The files included images of prepubescent minors subjected to sadistic or violent sexual conduct.
Pursuant to a plea agreement, Sprague has agreed to be sentenced to between 48 and 78 months in prison, 10 years of supervised release, to pay restitution to the minor females depicted in the child pornography collection, and to forfeit his computer media. He also faces a maximum $250,000 fine.
Sprague’s guilty plea comes as a relief to the community, which was left reeling by the discovery of the child pornography collection. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of child exploitation and the importance of vigilance in protecting our children.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Dalton Police Department.
Sprague is currently being held in custody pending sentencing, which is scheduled for October 7, 2014.
