New Orleans Man Charged with Gun Control Act Violation
A federal grand jury charged Jaron McCree, a 27-year-old Orleans Parish resident, with violating the Federal Gun Control Act. According to the indictment, McCree possessed a firearm while being a convicted felon.
On April 29, 2022, the indictment was handed down by a federal grand jury. If convicted, McCree faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, a fine of up to $250,000.00, up to three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
U. S. Attorney Duane A. Evans reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
This case is being prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, the centerpiece of the violent crime reduction efforts.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department. Assistant U. S. Attorney Mike Trummel is handling the prosecution.
