Raleigh, NC – A Greenville man has been sentenced to prison for his role in a cocaine and marijuana conspiracy.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina, Jarrku Natu Bennett, 32, was sentenced to 70 months in prison and 8 years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine, a quantity of heroin, and a quantity of marijuana.
Bennett pleaded guilty to this charge on August 17, 2015.
On March 3, 2015, the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force arrested Bennett after a traffic stop during which detectives found 62 grams of cocaine and 111 grams of marijuana in his car.
Further investigation revealed that Bennett was responsible for the distribution of 1.5 kilograms of cocaine, 49 grams of crack cocaine, 1.8 kilograms of marijuana, and an indeterminate amount of heroin between August 2014 and March 3, 2015.
The case was investigated by the Greenville Regional Drug Task Force, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The federal prosecution was handled by Special Assistant United States Attorney Glenn Perry, who is a prosecutor with the Pitt County District Attorney’s Office.
Pitt County District Attorney Kimberly Robb has assigned Mr. Perry to the United States Attorney’s Office, pursuant to funding provided by the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys, to prosecute federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force criminal matters.
Bennett’s sentence is the result of a thorough investigation and prosecution of a serious crime.
