Fort Thompson Man Guilty Of Abusive Sexual Contact
A 41-year-old Fort Thompson man has pleaded guilty to abusive sexual contact, a federal crime that carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
According to court documents, Jarrod Johnson appeared before U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on January 10, 2013, and entered a guilty plea to the superseding information charging him with the crime.
The charge stems from an incident in which Johnson engaged in and attempted to engage in sexual contact with a victim who was incapable of appraising the nature of the sexual contact.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges is prosecuting the case. Johnson was released pending sentencing, with a sentencing date set for March 25, 2013.
Johnson’s guilty plea marks a significant milestone in the case, which has been ongoing for several months. The Bureau of Indian Affairs’ investigation into the incident was thorough and meticulous, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Dilges has worked tirelessly to bring the case to a successful conclusion.
The sentencing hearing for Johnson is scheduled for March 25, 2013, at which time he will face the possibility of up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
