Fresno man Jarvell Kent pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon in the USP Atwater, a federal prison in California, according to a recent plea agreement.
A 30-year-old from Fresno, Kent chased another inmate around a cell block at the prison on April 28, 2024, while holding a jail-made knife.
He, along with another inmate, used the knife to stab the victim, wounding him and requiring medical attention.
The case is the product of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Prisons.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Veneman-Hughes is prosecuting the case.
Kent is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kirk E. Sherriff on June 23, 2025. He faces a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The actual sentence will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.
