Jasmine McMichael Charged with Witness Intimidation in Indiana

A 22-year-old woman from East Chicago, Indiana has been charged with using the threat of force against a witness, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.

Jasmine McMichael, the sister of Anton Lamont James, allegedly made threatening statements to a witness after James was arrested for murder in aid of racketeering on July 16, 2015. McMichael and her mother, Dalia Guerrero, confronted the witness on the same day.

Guerrero was indicted on July 16, 2015 for her participation in the confrontation. James was also indicted last week for murder in aid of racketeering.

“Witness intimidation in any manner by any person will not be tolerated,” stated United States Attorney David Capp.

The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Hammond Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney David J. Nozick is handling the case.

The United States Attorney’s Office emphasized that a Complaint is merely an allegation and that all persons charged are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.

The exact sentence or outcome is not specified in the press release. However, if convicted, the sentence will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
