Oklahoma City, OK – A federal jury has convicted 28-year-old Jason Alan Villegas, from El Paso, Texas, of conspiring to distribute cocaine and possessing cocaine with intent to distribute.

The conviction stems from a two-day trial, which concluded yesterday. Evidence presented during the trial showed that Villegas was arrested on August 10, 2020, after a search of his vehicle at a traffic stop in Canadian County resulted in the seizure of approximately six kilograms of cocaine hidden in a secret compartment built into his vehicle.

This was Villegas’ third trip from El Paso for drug trafficking purposes, highlighting the severity of the case. The arrest marked a significant blow to the drug trafficking operation.

At sentencing in approximately 90 days, Villegas faces a minimum sentence of ten years in federal prison and up to a life sentence for each count. Each count also carries a fine of up to $10,000,000 and a minimum term of supervised release of five years following imprisonment.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Thomas Snyder and Travis Leverett prosecuted the case, which is the result of investigations by Homeland Security Investigations and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region. The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics has been working closely with federal agencies to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking operations.

Jason Alan Villegas, 28, of El Paso, Texas, was convicted of conspiring to distribute cocaine and possessing cocaine with intent to distribute. The charges stem from a Superseding Indictment returned by a federal grand jury on February 19, 2021.
