PIERRE, South Dakota – In a brazen daylight robbery, two men from New Town, North Dakota, stormed into the Black Hills Federal Credit Union in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, armed with BB gun pistols.
On April 8, 2025, Jason Cook, 40, and Conrad DeMarce, 38, entered the credit union dressed in black with their faces covered. They threatened and intimidated four employees and a customer, demanding money and fleeing in a vehicle driven by Cook.
During the high-speed pursuit, the men reached speeds of over 115 miles per hour before their vehicle ran out of gas. Law enforcement found cash stolen from the credit union, clothing worn during the robbery, and the BB gun pistols used during the robbery in the vehicle.
Cook and DeMarce were arrested and subsequently pleaded guilty to Credit Union Robbery. On September 15, 2025, U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte sentenced the duo to prison time.
Cook was sentenced to seven years and three months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He was ordered to pay $99.91 in restitution, to be paid joint and several with DeMarce, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
DeMarce received a seven-year prison sentence, also followed by three years of supervised release. He was ordered to pay $99.91 in restitution, to be paid joint and several with Cook, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Cook and DeMarce are currently in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, awaiting their prison sentences.
