A Colorado man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for conspiracy to commit perjury by threatening a witness in a murder trial.
Jason Patrick Baca, 35, of Lakewood, Colorado, was sentenced to five years in federal prison on each count of Subornation of Perjury and Conspiracy to Commit Subornation of Perjury, to run consecutively, followed by three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $200 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The conviction stems from Baca threatening a material witness and dissuading the witness from testifying truthfully in the September 2021 jury trial for the 2016 assault and shooting death of Vincent Von Brewer III. Baca pleaded guilty on December 22, 2021.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sarah Collins and Benjamin Patterson prosecuted the case.
Baca was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. The indictment was handed down by a federal grand jury on May 21, 2019.
The 10-year sentence handed down to Baca is a result of his actions, which compromised the integrity of the justice system. The conviction serves as a reminder that those who attempt to interfere with the justice system will be held accountable.
