SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A local man has been brought to justice for his role in a massive cocaine trafficking operation in North Sacramento.
Jason Tolbert, 45, of Sacramento, was sentenced to 57 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine, according to a statement from United States Attorney Phillip A. Talbert.
Tolbert was one of 15 federal defendants arrested in 2021 as part of a DEA-led multi-agency operation targeting cocaine and heroin traffickers in North Sacramento.
According to court documents, Tolbert was intercepted during wiretaps in 2018 trafficking powder cocaine. Upon his arrest, he was in possession of over a kilogram of cocaine and a loaded firearm.
Tolbert is the first defendant to be sentenced in this case.
This case was the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Sacramento Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, United States Marshals Service, Homeland Security Investigations, and California Highway Patrol.
Assistant United States Attorneys Cameron L. Desmond and Aaron Pennekamp prosecuted the case.
This effort is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, which aims to identify, disrupt, and dismantle the highest-level criminal organizations threatening the United States.
Tolbert’s sentencing marks a major victory in the fight against cocaine trafficking in Sacramento.
As one of the defendants in this case, Tolbert faces 57 months in prison for his crimes.
