BRIDGEPORT, CT – Jauwan Edwards, 25, also known as “Yaya,” has confessed to his role in the brutal activities of the Original North End (O.N.E.) gang, a notorious Bridgeport crew steeped in violence, drug trafficking, and theft. Edwards pleaded guilty yesterday before U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley, admitting to a racketeering offense that ties him to a web of criminal activity terrorizing the city.
Federal investigators and Bridgeport Police have been relentlessly pursuing O.N.E. and other local gangs for years, uncovering a pattern of escalating violence and brazen disregard for the law. Evidence presented in court revealed Edwards wasn’t just a member of O.N.E.; he was an active participant in their campaign of terror, which targeted rival gangs like the East End, East Side, and PT Barnum crews. The gang operated with chilling efficiency, using social media to coordinate attacks and distribute evidence of their crimes.
Court documents detail Edwards’ involvement in a wide range of illegal activities, including the sale of fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, crack, Percocet pills, and marijuana. Beyond drugs, O.N.E. engaged in systematic robberies of drug dealers, customers, and anyone else they deemed a target. They weren’t afraid to cross state lines, stealing vehicles from as far away as Rye, New York, using them as getaway cars or instruments of violence. One stolen vehicle, a Lexus Rx350, played a particularly grim role in a series of escalating events in December 2019.
The investigation revealed a disturbing sequence of events that culminated in the murder of 18-year-old Ty’Quess Moore, also known as “Breezo.” In early December 2019, O.N.E. members unleashed a barrage of gunfire in multiple incidents across Bridgeport, including one that targeted the mother of two East End gang members outside her home. Just days later, on December 8th, the stolen Lexus was used in a shooting at the P.T. Barnum Housing Complex. The same vehicle was then driven to Newfield Avenue, a known East End/East Side territory, where Moore was fatally shot. The callous disregard for human life painted a chilling picture of O.N.E.’s ruthlessness.
Edwards has been held in custody since his arrest on July 27, 2021. He now faces a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment after pleading guilty to one count of racketeering conspiracy. Judge Dooley has scheduled sentencing for September 27th. The case was a collaborative effort led by the FBI, ATF, DEA, U.S. Marshals Service, Connecticut State Police, and Bridgeport Police Department, with support from various forensic and investigative units.
This prosecution is part of a larger initiative encompassing the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), Project Longevity, and Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF). Authorities hope this conviction will deliver a blow to O.N.E.’s operations and send a clear message that violent gang activity will not be tolerated in Bridgeport. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Karen L. Peck, Tara E. Levens, Patrick J. Doherty, Rahul Kale, and Jocelyn C. Kaoutzanis are prosecuting the case.
