Javier Chavez, 34, Sarasota Man Pleads Guilty to Attempting to Engage in Sexual Activity with a Minor
A shocking case of pedophilia has come to light as Javier Chavez, a 34-year-old Sarasota resident, pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual activity with a minor.
According to court documents, Chavez communicated with an undercover law enforcement officer posing as the mother of a 14-year-old girl and her 14-year-old daughter. Despite learning of the girl’s age, Chavez engaged in a sexually explicit conversation with the girl and sent her explicit videos of himself.
On May 15 and 16, 2024, Chavez’s intentions were clear – he arrived at a home in Lee County with the intention of engaging in sexual activity with the minor. His plans, however, were foiled by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, who apprehended him on the spot.
In a harrowing admission, Chavez later confessed to deputies that his intentions with the girl were indeed sexual in nature. This disturbing revelation has left many shaken, and the community is breathing a sigh of relief that Chavez has been brought to justice.
The case was investigated by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Morgan.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
Chavez faces a minimum penalty of 10 years, up to life, in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled. The community can rest assured that justice is being served, and those who would harm our children will be held accountable.
