John David Stahlman, Attempting to Persuade a Minor, Florida 2016

A federal jury has convicted John David Stahlman, a 35-year-old Florida National Guardsman from Longwood, of attempting to persuade, induce, and entice a minor to engage in sexual activity. Stahlman faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years, up to life, in federal prison.

According to the testimony and evidence presented at trial, on November 10, 2016, Stahlman posted an advertisement on Craigslist seeking a “young ‘looking’ girl” for possible “physical pleasure.” An FBI agent acting in an undercover capacity responded to the advertisement and introduced himself as the single father of an 11-year-old child.

Over the course of two and a half months, Stahlman made plans to meet and have sex with the 11-year-old, and eventually traveled to meet with the minor. He was subsequently arrested and indicted on November 15, 2016. Stahlman’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 10, 2017.
